Proper Lifting

Posted in 16mm on May 15th, 2006

This is the first chunk of 16mm that i’ve managed to transfer, a tiny clip is here.

It is a workplace safety film from back-in-the-day about proper lifting technique. Not the most intriguing content in the world, but still scratchable.

After dozens of hours in the bunker and countless handcramps, it’s nice to see that it works. I’m really enjoying it. Though it takes an incredibly long time -more than an hour per second- it’s repetitive enough to be meditative.

16mm film and chemicals. yup, chemicals

Some were more heavy-duty than others: Comet, Windex, Fantastik, paint thinner, nail polish remover, drain cleaner, bleach, paint, peroxide, detergent.

highly toxic.

Some of them didn’t do anything (but make me dizzy), some took the emulsion right off. I ruined a whole lotta film, but a couple little nugs of made it through the gauntlet. Here’s a pic of a frame for now, until I transfer it to digital.
