Chemical Spring

16mm frameI just finished mangling a couple old 16mm nature films with industrial strength draincleaner and bleach. It ate away most of the emulsion, so I sliced and diced what was left, and went to work with some india inks and paint. Finally, I transferred it to digital format.

A loop of the piece will be playing at Studio 16 1/2 as part of their Potluck Show starting this Saturday, November 11th.

Interesting footage effects from the chemical baths you experimented with. I saw the work in the ‘Potluck’ at Studio 16 1/2. I ended up using that piece in a Contemporary Art History paper I wrote this fall semester. I was particularly intrigued by the installation of the film. It was almost organic -like it was a mechanical living organism. Well done.

    Thanks Tani,
I’m glad you enjoyed it, and am honoured that you felt it was worth mentioning in your paper. But, I can’t take all the credit. Bill and Kirsten at the gallery were super-helpful with the setup.
    Cheers,
    Scott
